Robin Thicke is finally breaking his silence on his MTV Video Music Awards performance with Miley Cyrus that sent shockwaves through the media and still has people talking almost three weeks later.
Thicke shot down rumors that Cyrus didn’t do half of the provocative acts she did on stage in rehearsal, leaving the “Blurred Lines” singer shocked when the live performance took place.
He told Star magazine that the shocking element of the performance was on purpose, and kept in line with their whole plan.
“We knew what we were getting ourselves into. We’re entertainers, and the VMAs [are] the perfect place for a little shock and awe. We kind of knew when we were in rehearsal and we were like, ‘Okay, if you touch me with your foam finger all over my crotch, obviously a few people are going to have something to say about this’. But that was the whole point!” he said.
He went on to say that the performance was not “sexually charged at all.”
“The whole point was to excite and provoke and entertain . I thought it was silly and funny. She was being humorous and naughty, but it wasn’t sexually charged at all,” he explained.
When Cyrus broke her silence on the performance, she said they wanted to “make history.”
