Singer Sara Bareilles is happy with the success of her song after the Katy Perry comparisons.
After E! News reported that critics found Katy Perry's "Roar" similar to Bareilles' "Brave," the two songs have been gaining a lot of attention.
After the internet drama, Bareilles' song peaked at No. 31 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart and has reached Gold status.
Bareilles told the Associated Press that she and Perry are great friends and even spoke about the controversy involving their songs.
"I don't feel like anything was taken from me artistically. I wasn't the one having any problems with it," Bareilles said. "I've known Katy a long time. We are friends and she and I spoke about it. I look at it as two female artists who are releasing a message of empowerment."
Bareilles also spoke about fusing the two songs.
"We actually talked about it. We're like, 'Should we just work on a mash up and let everybody know we're not mad at each other?'" she said.
However, Bareilles explained that she was upset with some of her fans over the controversy.
"To be totally honest, I was sort of disappointed in how aggressive fans were being about it," she said. "I don't promote drama in my life and competition and stuff like that."
Bareilles is currently on tour with One Republic, and will launch a solo tour in Boston Oct. 6.
