Senator Ted Cruz, as part of his efforts against Obamacare, delivered a speech Tuesday night that has lasted all the way into Wednesday morning—and after 17 hours, it appears he is still going strong.
According to FOX News, Cruz, a Texas Republican, told the Senate he would speak against President Obama’s health care law until he could no longer stand. He stated that “Obamacare isn’t working,” and that “[t]here are politicians in this body who are not listening to the people.”
Cruz, and some of his fellow Republicans, then went on to criticize the health care law, even going as far as to compare his fight against it to the rebel’s fight against the empire and Darth Vader, CNN reports.
Not all Republican senators approved Cruz’s tactics, however. While the 45 Republicans in the Senate oppose Obamacare, most of them are concerned that Cruz will hold up efforts of passing an emergency spending bill, thus leading to shutdowns of major federal agencies, Reuters writes.
There will a Senate vote despite Cruz’s filibuster, as he will be required to yield to a vote later today.
