Author Matthew Quick provided the source material for one of 2012’s biggest hits, Silver Linings Playbook and Sony is hoping that his next book does the same. The studio has won a bidding war for Quick’s next book, Love May Fail.

The news was first reported by TheWrap, which confirmed that The Amazing Spider-Man producer Matt Tolmach will produce the film.

According to Variety, a manuscript was sent around Hollywood earlier this week and sparked interest from the studios, but Sony swooped in with the winning bid. Sony’s Hannah Minghella and Elizabeth Cantillon made the deal with Rich Green, Quick’s agent.

The plot details are still unknown, but the title is taken from a Kurt Vonnegut quote.

Quick has become a big name in Hollywood after Silver Linings Playbook became a surprising hit for The Weinstein Company. The romantic comedy earned several Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director. Jennifer Lawrence won Best Actress.

The author’s first book, Sorta Like A Rock Star, is currently in development at Fox Searchlight.

Tolmach recently produced Robbie Pickering’s The Kitchen Sink and is producing Sony’s Amazing Spider-Man franchise.
