Steve Nash had a rough first season, being plagued by injury, but now as the oldest player in the NBA, he wants to prove he's still one of the best.
Nash is 39 years old this year, making him the oldest player in the league. After breaking his leg last season, then coming back only to be taken out due to the injury during the playoffs, Nash worked hard during the off-season and is coming back healthy. However, being 39, he will probably see limited minutes this year, and may not be able to keep up with the younger point guards of the NBA.
"It's not a privilege I ever really dreamed about," Nash said about being the oldest player in the NBA, on Lakers media day. "It's pretty strange and I guess surreal in a way."
According to LA Times, Nash says that he is fully recovered from the broken bone and nerve damage in his leg, and also from the hip and hamstring problems he had all throughout last season.
"Obviously, I think people think I'm on the downswing and that I'm receding into retirement in front of our eyes," Nash said. "So I've got a lot to prove."
Aside from his health issues, LakersNation.com reports that Nash loves playing for the Lakers in front of their fan base. He knows what it means to wear the purple and gold and he enjoys playing for the team.
“It was a great experience to play for the Lakers, to be a part of this community, and to play for this fan base. It’s an amazing opportunity and experience that I’ve completely embraced.”
On the subject of Dwight Howard's departure, Nash believes that everyone has moved on from that fiasco.
