The suspected gunman who shot and killed four people whose bodies were found in a car on a rural Tennessee road is in police custody.

An abandoned vehicle was discovered on a rural road on Renegade Mountain early Thursday morning, when a local resident drove by the car.

"They knew that nobody lives on that street, and [the car] just looked odd sitting there," Sheriff Butch Burgess said in an interview with WATE.

What the person found inside the car were four people who had been shot to death.

The victims have been identified as Danielle Jacobson, 22, who had been driving the car, Steven Presley, 17, Dominic Davis, 17, and John Lajeunesse, 16. NY Daily News reports that officials believe that the four were not killed at random, but were targeted by their murderer.

Officials believe that the murderer is 26-year-old Jacob Allen Bennett, who was reportedly arrested on a parole violation just hours after the bodies of the four victims were discovered. Bennett remains behind bars as of Friday.

No further details, including motive, were immediately available as the investigation is ongoing.
