The nominations for the 47th annual Country Music Association Awards were announced Tuesday morning by Sheryl Crow and Florida Georgia Line. Taylor Swift and Kacey Musgraves tied for the most nominations, as both are up for six awards.
Newcomer Musgraves will compete against Swift in the Female Vocalist of the Year and Album of the Year categories. Swift now has a total of 21 CMA nominations and seven wins, including two Entertainer of the Year awards. Musgraves, however, is a first-time CMA nominee. Her songs are also more progressive than Swift’s heartbreak tunes. ABC News reports that Musgraves’ numerous nominations show that the typically conservative award show is opening up to new sounds and ideas.
Just behind Swift and Musgraves, Blake Shelton and his wife, Miranda Lambert, have five nominations each. In 2012, the couple won Song of the Year for their collaboration in “Over You.” This year, Shelton and Lambert are nominated together again in both the Musical Event and Music Video categories.
Keith Urban and Florida Georgia Line round out the top nominees with four nominations apiece. For a complete list of the nominations, go to CMA World.
The CMAs will be hosted by Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley on ABC Nov. 6th.
