Toyota announced a recall of almost 781,000 vehicles due to complaints of loose suspension parts. The 2006-2011 Toyota RAV4 crossover and the 2010 Lexus HS250 hybrid sedan have been recalled in the United States.
According to MSN, this is not the first time the recall has been made. In August 2012, the same models were recalled after almost 500 complaints and warranty claims were argued over the rear suspension arm. Apparently, that recall was “not adequate.” The repair was not assessed and applied in entirety, and once again, there are numerous complaints claiming loose nuts that connect the rear suspension arm to the wheels.
With loose nuts there, the vehicles' alignments are offset and therefore are liable to cause accidents and injuries. The malfunction also creates the potential for rust and more damage.
Now, dealers will be required to make the alignment of the wheels permanent. Toyota needs to seal the rear lower suspension arms with an epoxy in order to prevent further damage and accidents, reports Reuters. The company is reportedly blaming repair shops, claiming that everything was properly fastened when the vehicles left their factory.
The complete recall will not be finished until February 2014 because Toyota has limited parts available.
