It wouldn’t be a Friday the 13th without the release of at least one horror film and this time is no exception as a sequel to a 2010 hit makes its way into theaters. Also, not so much a haunting movie, but could be equally as deadly, is Robert DeNiro and Michelle Pfeiffer’s latest.
A former mob boss and his family find it hard to fit it in with the Witness Protection Program in The Family. After ratting out the mafia to the authorities, Fred Manzoni and his family are relocated to a quiet town in France. Their transition isn’t easy as they revert back to their old ways of dealing with things, making them an easy target for the mobsters looking for retribution. Robert DeNiro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Tommy Lee Jones, Dianna Agron and John D'Leo star in the film. The crime drama runs for one hour and fifty-one minutes. It’s rated R for violence, language and sex.
The people behind Saw and Paranormal Activity are back with Insidious: Chapter 2. In this sequel to the 2010 film, the Lambert family is searching for answers as to why they are being terrorized by evil spirits. The one hour and forty-five minute horror film is rated PG-13.
Kevin Bacon, Robert Duvall and Billy Bob Thornton star in Jayne Mansfield’s Car. In the drama, two cultures collide following the death of the family matriarch who had left her husband in Alabama to start a family with a British man. The two hour and one minute film follows three generations of the family during the 1960’s. The limited theaters film is rated R for sex, drugs, nudity and language.
A married woman’s life is revitalized after she meets a younger man in And While We Were Here. While accompanying her husband on a business trip in Italy’s Amalfi Coast, Jane falls for the carefree the lifestyle she sees with a younger man. Kate Bosworth stars in the one hour and twenty-three minute romantic drama. The limited released film is rated R for sex, language and drugs.
An up and coming rock star goes down a dark path following the death of her brother and bandmate in Plush. The married mother of two seeks consolation in her new guitarist, sparking creativity and scandal. The dramatic thriller is playing in limited theaters for one hour and thirty-nine minutes. It’s rated R for sex, violence, language and drugs.
A Nigerian-American couple struggles to have a child in Mother of George. Their inability to get pregnant puts monumental stress on them and devastates their families, causing the woman to make a life changing decision. The unrated drama runs for one hour and forty-seven minutes. It’s available in limited theaters.
The song that many say is responsible for the popularity of hip hop is the focus of Sample This. In the summer of 1973, the Incredible Bongo Band’s “Apache” began making waves in the music industry and its percussive beats have since been sampled by many artists over the last few decades including Will Smith, Missy Elliot, Jay-Z and Amy Winehouse. The unrated documentary is playing in limited theaters for one hour and twenty-five minutes.
Two of the biggest art collectors are the focus of the limited released documentary Herb & Dorothy 50 x 50. Herb & Dorothy are a postal worker and a librarian who attended many art shows and accumulated thousands of works of art over the years. In 2008, the married couple decided to spread their love of art and share their collection with museums across all fifty states. The unrated film plays for one hour and twenty-seven minutes.
The double life of a social activist is explored in the limited released documentary Informant. Brandon Darby played a critical role in the rebuilding of New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina, including creating the relief organization Common Ground. Once considered a radical left-wing activist, Darby became a FBI informant who is now a vocal member of the tea party. The unrated film plays for one horu and twenty-one minutes.
A huge name in the fashion industry is now making her way mainstream with the release of Mademoiselle C. Carine Roitfeld was a major influence on the fashion world as the head of French Vogue magazine for 10 years. The one hour and thirty-three minute documentary follows her as she begins a new life in New York with a new job and gets ready for the birth of her grandchild. The unrated film is available in limited theaters.
The source of our food is investigated in GMO OMG. The unrated film explains that most people do not realize where the food they put in their mouth comes from. Much of it does not come from nature but is genetically altered. The one hour and twenty-seven minute documentary is available in limited theaters.
