A Tupac Shakur film is set to begin filming in early 2014.
A film about Tupac Shakur's life is now in motion after being financed by Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films and Morgan Creek Productions, Deadline reports. The movie is simply titled Tupac.
Several companies wanted to partner with Morgan Creek for the film, but EFO was chosen. The movie has a $45 million budget and the companies have the rights to Tupac's music catalog. Afeni Shakur, Tupac's mother, will be a producer.
A movie about Tupac has long been kicked around, but nothing has ever come of it until now. With funding now in place, the next move will be to quickly find a director and cast since the movie is set to start filming early next year.
In addition to a Tupac film, a Broadway show is also being made, MTV notes. The movie will be anti-violence and an "unconditional love story," but not necessarily a biography. Kenny Leon is set to direct the musical, titled "Holler If Ya Hear Me."
