Seventeen years after Tupac Shakur’s death, his mother is suing a company called Entertainment One for $1.1 million.
According to TMZ, Afeni Shakur, 66, is going after her son’s unpaid royalties from the entertainment company. Apparently, they still haven’t written her a check after the release of the album Beginnings: The Lost Tapes in June 2007. Now, she’s bringing their breach of the contract to court.
The album consists of ten songs, including some of the rapper’s first songs that he recorded in 1988.
Entertainment One bought the rights to Tupac’s music in July - the previous owner was Death Row Records.
Tupac’s mom isn’t just after the royalties from the album - she also wants all of the master recordings of her son’s unreleased music.
Afeni is a busy woman. Along with the lawsuit, she has her mind set on co-producing her son’s biopic film Tupac, which HipHopWired reports should begin filming in 2014.
