Vanity Fair is celebrating a very happy anniversary with supermodel Kate Upton. The blonde-bombshell has landed the cover of the magazine for its 100th issue.
In order to celebrate the special occasion, Vanity Fair is going back in time by having Kate channel the original Hollywood sex icon, Marilyn Monroe. The mag’s October issue shows Upton in a seductive, cream, silk number holding a cake with the 100th anniversary candle.
Stylelist reports that Vanity Fair’s editor, Graydon Carter, spoke out about embracing tradition and channeling the mag’s roots. He said, “Today’s magazine is different in countless ways from yesterday’s-as even the briefest excursion through this issue will show. But I like to think that if [Vanity Fair’s first editor] Frank Crowninshield...could see the modern Vanity Fair, stripped of its logo and other identifying marks, he’d know in an instant what he held in his hands.”
According to E! Online renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz shot the buxom blonde to recreate the original cover from October 1, 1913.
Upton’s interview in the magazine reveals some of her struggles as a fashion model. She states, “I’m not going to name names, but one agency told me, ‘You’re too American, and everybody knows American women are lazy.’”
This is not the first major cover Upton has landed in the past two years. She first skyrocketed to fame after posing for Sports Illustrated in a super sexy spread.
