Former Disney Channel star Zac Efron completed a rehab stint five months ago, but it is just coming to light now thanks to reports today.
It is not clear how long Efron, who appeared in Disney’s High School Musical franchise before starring in more adult fare like The Paperboy and this fall’s Parkland, spent in rehab, but reports say it has been five months since he left.
One source told People that he is “doing great,” adding, “He's taking care of himself and it shows.”
E! News, which first reported the news, cited a source who commented, “He's healthy, happy and not drinking.” The source added, “He's taking time to focus on working.”
Efron appears in Parkland, a new drama starring Billy Bob Thornton, Paul Giamatti, Jacki Weaver and Marcia Gay Harden. It focuses on the events before and after President John F. Kennedy’s assassination and hits theaters on Sept. 20. In the film, Efron plays a doctor who tries to revive Kennedy.
“I'm good, real good,” he told E! at the Toronto International Film Festival, where he appeared for a screening of the film.
Efron’s next film is Are We Officially Dating? with Imogen Poots and Michael B. Jordan.
