American Horror Story continues to be a success for FX, with viewers eager to tune in and see what creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have up their sleeves for each season of the anthology series. The new season, titled Coven, premiered on Wednesday and brought in record ratings for the network.
The first airing of the episode drew in 5.54 million viewers, a 44 percent jump over the previous series high mark, notes The Hollywood Reporter. It also drew in 3.87 million viewers in the key 18-49 demographic, up from 39 percent over the previous high.
Adding in the repeats, the total number jumps to 8 million overall and 5.4 million in the key demo, reports Deadline.
With numbers like those for the premiere, FX has to be hoping that Coven can reverse last season’s downward trend in the ratings. The second season, titled Asylum, averaged 2.3 million viewers, a drop from the 3.85 million who tuned in to season one.
