Jonas Cuaron, the son of director Alfonso Cuaron and his co-writer on Gravity, has been hired by Warner Bros. to write a script for The Lost City, a film set in the underwater world of Atlantis.

Variety reports that the plot for the film is still unknown, but the publication’s sources say that it will take a new look at the mythical kingdom.

Weed Road Pictures’ Akiva Goldsman is producing with Torry Tunnell and Joby Harold of Safehouse Pictures. Lynn Harris will oversee the project for the studio.

Cuaron is clearly hoping to take his own career to new heights after working with his father on Gravity. As The Verge notes, he is about to direct Desierto, which his father is producing. That film is a thriller starring Gael Garcia Bernal and centers on illegal immigrants who arrive in the U.S. but are being hunted. It starts shooting in 2014.

Variety notes that Warner Bros. has The Lost City set as a priority, even though it is in the very early stages of development. Peter Jackson was interested at one time, but nothing came of that.

According to Box Office Mojo, Gravity has already grossed $136 million domestically and $68 million at the foreign box office.
