As Ted inches closer and closer to meeting the Mother, fans inch closer and closer to the series finale of How I Met Your Mother. However, this spring may not be the end for the beloved sitcom, as CBS is in talks for a spinoff.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the proposed spinoff would be a half-hour comedy that centers around how one woman met the father of her children. Similar to HIMYM, the show would feature a group of friends in New York that hang out at MacLaren’s Pub.

As of now, the possible sitcom is referred to as How I Met Your Father.

Although the spinoff wouldn’t feature any characters from the original show, HIMYM creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas are on board. Thomas told Entertainment Weekly about his ideas for a spinoff earlier this year.

“There’s a world where the universe of the show can keep existing in a way that feels coherent to what’s come before, but new enough to be worth watching,” Thomas said.

If the tentative project becomes a reality, fans would meet the new group in the series finale of HIMYM.

Spinoffs are notorious for their lack of success, but here’s to hoping this one is legendary.
