The American Film Institute has added two marquee titles to its 2013 AFI Fest. Lone Survivor with Mark Wahlberg will make its world premiere at the event, while organizers will host a gala red carpet event for August: Osage County.
Organizers confirmed today that there will be one gala event each night of the festival, which runs from Nov. 7 to Nov. 14. The festival will still open with the World Premiere of Disney’s Saving Mr. Banks, about the making of Mary Poppins, on Nov. 7.
The gala event for August: Osage County will take place on Nov. 8. The John Wells-directed film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival to a mixed response, but Meryl Streep earned positive notices for her performance.
Lone Survivor is the new film from director Peter Berg and stars Wahlberg. The AFI Fest is hosting its world premiere on Nov. 12.
The last centerpiece gala event added today was The Last Emperor 3D on Nov. 10. That classic film was directed by Bernardo Bertolucci and won the Best Picture Oscar for 1987.
Previously announced gala events include Inside Llewyn Davis (Nov. 14), Out of the Furnace (Nov. 9), Nebraska (Nov. 11) and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (Nov. 13).
The festival was set to host the world premiere of Foxcatcher, but that film has been delayed until 2014.
