Two days after surprising Hollywood by announcing that his The Monuments Men would be delayed, the new film from George Clooney has officially been rescheduled by Sony. It will be released in February.
Sony was also caught surprise by the move, which was announced on Tuesday, when Clooney spoke with the Los Angeles Times from London. According to Variety, Sony already started its Oscar campaigning, noting that two trailers for the film have been released and an awards consultant was already hired.
Now, the studio has officially set The Monuments Men for a Feb. 7, 2014 release.
Sony had originally planned on releasing the Robocop remake on that date. The film has been pushed back to Feb. 12.
The studio is now left with just one fall release: David O. Russell’s American Hustle. That film is now opening on Monuments Men’s original Dec. 18 date. It will receive a limited release on Dec. 13.
Monuments Men stars Clooney, Matt Damon, Bill Murray and Cate Blanchett as a group of art experts trying to save priceless art from the Nazis during World War II. Clooney explained that they just needed more time for post-production in order to give audiences the best possible film. He directed and co-wrote with Grant Heslov.
