Olympus Has Fallen, the more successful of 2013’s two ‘White House Under Siege’ movies, is getting a sequel. Gerard Butler and the rest of the cast will work to save London this time in London Has Fallen.
Butler, Aaron Eckhart and Morgan Freeman have all signed on to appear in the sequel, reports ScreenDaily, which first reported the news. Angela Bassett and Radha Mitchell will also be back. The plot will focus on a plot to hit London during a British Prime Minister’s funeral. The U.S. President, his secret service head and an MI6 agent are the only ones that can foil the plot.
Katrin Benedikt and Creighton Rothenberger are writing the screenplay again, however, producers are looking for a director. Antoine Fuqua is working on The Equalizer next year, so he may not be able to direct when cameras roll on May 5, 2014 in London.
Millennium Films is producing and financing, while Butler’s G-Base is co-producing. Executive producers include Avi Lerner, Trevor Short, Boaz Davidson, John Thompson and Christine Crow.
According to IndieWire, the film is being set up at Focus Features, which is now being run by ex-Film District head Peter Schlessel.
Olympus Has Fallen grossed $161 million worldwide and only cost $70 million to make. It did better than White House Down, which flopped during the summer.
