Judd Apatow is bringing his crew together for a special episode of The Simpsons. It will not be for the spec-script he wrote two decades ago that is finally being produced, but they will bring their voice talents to a different episode.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Apatow, his wife Leslie Mann, Paul Rudd and Seth Rogen will appear in the same episode that will feature Channing Tatum, Will Arnett and Judas Priest singer Rob Halford.
The plot of the episode finds Homer annoyed with movie theaters, so he has Bart teach him how to download movies illegally. He then decides to screen movies for free in his backyard. One of the movies will be a This Is 40 knock-off called Life Is Funny. Each fake film will feature different stars.
Outside of the movies, there will be a surprise twist. “There is a crazy twist where Rudd returns in a super meta thing that people may or may not understand,” executive producer Matt Selman said.
The episode is called “Steal This Episode” and will air in January.
Back in 2012, it was reported that a script Apatow submitted to The Simpsons will finally see the light of day. It was written for the show’s first season in 1989, but is not being produced until now.
The Simpsons were also renewed for a 26th season.
