Chris Pine, who plays Captain Kirk in J.J. Abrams’ new Star Trek films, has been hired to play one of the horrible bosses in Horrible Bosses 2.
Last week, Deadline reported that Pine and Django Unchained star Christoph Waltz were being considered a father/son duo of bad bosses.
Sources for The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Pine has officially signed on, but the father role is still open since Waltz has passed on the part. New Line is currently searching for an actor to play Pine’s father.
Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day and Jamie Foxx are all set to return for Horrible Bosses 2. The film won’t be directed by Seth Gordon, who is busy on other projects. However, We’re The Millers writers Sean Anders and John Morris will direct and executive produce, respectively.
Outside of Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness, Pine has had a mixed track record, but he hopes to get his own action franchise when Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit hits theaters on Dec. 25. He is currently working on Disney’s Into The Woods.
New Line is targeting Thanksgiving weekend 2014 for Horrible Bosses 2.
