MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, Kansas chose a unique woman to crown their homecoming queen. They voted 82-year-old Frances Wood, or “Granny Fanny” as the students like to call her,” the most popular woman on campus.
According to People, Granny Fanny enrolled at the college after her husband of 59 years passed away. Searching for something to make her happy again, she decided to immerse herself in classes in finance, history and literature.
"I was beginning to get just a little lonely and depressed," Wood told KCTV. "I needed something different to do and, believe me, this is different."
She's not just another face around campus though – the students love her, and she gives out business cards with her phone number and email address to anyone who wants one so students can contact her.
"Students feel loved by her," said student Konner McIntire. "She's like a grandma away from home."
Last weekend, the school honored Granny Fanny and crowned her “Homecoming Granny.”
She even went on a group date with three college boys for the occasion, but told the boys they better focus on finding potential wives.
