Sir Ben Kingsley mentioned last week that he was working on a ‘secret’ Marvel project, which lead to speculation about what he could do after playing the villain in Iron Man 3. It turns out that he may be filming a short film that would reveal the true Mandarin.
“It's a secret Marvel project. I'm not allowed to say any more, you're going to have to wait and see,” the Oscar winner and Ender’s Game star told the Belfast Telegraph on Oct. 22, notes IndieWire. “I was with many members of the crew that were involved in Iron Man 3. It was lovely to see them again. It was great to be with this wonderful family.”
Kinglsey gave no further details, but the Latino Review claims to know exactly what he’s talking about, but it centers on Iron Man 3 spoilers, so don’t read beyond here if you haven’t seen it yet.
In the film, it was revealed that Kingsley wasn’t the real Mandarin, but an actor named Trevor Slattery. The real Mandarin is upset that he and Aldrich Killian made a mockery of the Mandarin name. So, in the short film, the real Mandarin shows up, according to the site.
Of course, there’s nothing confirmed yet, so this is still a rumor. It does sound plausible though, since Marvel has been including short films on the home video releases. In fact, Iron Man 3’s short film is on with Captain America’s Agent Carter, which will reportedly inspire a TV project.
