Blondie re-records hit song for the CBGB soundtrack.
The hit group, Blondie, was happy to re-record their song "Sunday Girl" for the film CBGB, WENN reports.
Directed and co-written by Randall Miller, CBGB is a film about the 1970s punk-rock scene and nightclub of New York.
The film features 65 tracks from artists like Talking Heads, Iggy Pop, and Velvet Underground. The soundtrack consists of 20 popular tracks featured in the film.
Brad Rosenberger, the music supervisor, spoke about his excitement to have Blondie involved.
"We've been talking to them for a while because they're important to the film and I was talking to their manager and told him what we were looking for," Rosenberger said. "And he said, 'The band actually just went in and did this [re-recording], would you be interested in it?' We listened to it and I thought it worked great. It's amazing [that] 40 years later, you would never know that was a new recording."
Not everyone was willing to take part in the soundtrack. The band, The Ramones, wanted nothing to do with it.
We showed the band [our] representation [of] the film, and for whatever reason, they couldn't seem to go for it," Rosenberger said. "There was no animosity. I personally thought it was a lost opportunity."
Director Miller spoke to The Rolling Stone about how he and co-writer Jodi Savin decided to make the film.
"Jody and I had both had been to CBGB and loved the scene, what CBGB stood for back in the day," Miller said. "We were like, 'What about a movie about a time and a place?' As you peel it away, you find out more and more about the story and the people. We probably interviewed 100 different people involved in CBGB and we realized there was this great story to be told about Hilly, how he started it."
