The 200-million-year-old rock formation in Utah's Goblin Valley State Park has now been destroyed thanks to three Boy Scout troop leaders.
The three men even posted their destruction on YouTube and could possibly face felony charges for their actions, The Huffington Post reports.
The video shows a man named Glenn Taylor working out how to push over a large boulder that was a part of the rock formation. He eventually gets it to tumble down and the two men on camera literally jump in excitement over their actions to 'fix' the formation. "We have now modified Goblin Valley."
The man adds, "A new Goblin Valley exists, with, uh, this boulder down here [at] the bottom."
According to FOX13 the cameraman claims in the video that if they didn't topple the boulder "some little kid was about to walk down here and die."
The three men claim the video just doesn't show how loose the rock was. "We decided the best and smartest thing is, push it over so it can't fall on top of somebody," Dave Hall said.
Taylor admits that "I wish we would have been smart enough to go get a ranger cause it was wrong of us to be vigilantes, and I'm sorry I did that."
State Park officials aren't sure if they'll press charges yet. Taylor hopes they don't since "if you're a felon, you can't be a scouter and that would break my heart, but I did the crime."
