The New York Film Festival toasted the career of Oscar winner Cate Blanchett, who attended the event. She spoke about her latest film, Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine, which was also screened for fans at the event.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Allen sent in a recorded message, since he didn’t attend because “I find it impossible to sit through, you know, two hours of relentless adulation, especially for somebody else.” He also called it a “great experience” working with her and hoped that they could make another movie together.
Blanchett also sat down for a Q&A session with the audience and called her performance in Blue Jasmine the “culmination of my work on the theater and my work in the film.” Considering how many great roles the 44-year-old actress has had, that’s saying a lot. She has starred in The Lord of the Rings movies and won her Oscar for playing Katherine Hepburn in The Aviator.
She brought up Knight of Cups, the new film from Terrence Malick. She said of working with the director, “It was a cross between cinema, philosophy, poetry and a quasi religious experience.”
JustJared reports that the Australian actress was seen wearing a pink Armani Prive dress with Roger Vivier shoes on the red carpet before the event at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center.
Blanchett is currently working on Disney’s Cinderella, in which she plays the Evil Stepmother. It is being directed by Kenneth Branagh and is set for release in 2015.
