Clive Barker announced that he is working on a new script for a remake of the original Hellraiser, that was originally based off his novella The Hellbound Heart.

The horror writer made the announcement through his Facebook page, Los Angeles Times reports.

In addition to writing the script for the remake, Barker also said that Doug Bradley would be returning in his role as Pinhead. "Today I have officially been invited to write the script..." he wrote. "What can I tell you about it? Well, it will not be a film awash with CGI. I remain as passionate about the power of practical make-up effects as I was when I wrote and directed the first HELLRAISER."

Barker added, "Of course the best make-up in the world loses force if not inhabited by a first-rate actor. I told the Dimension team that in my opinion there could never be a Pinhead without Doug Bradley, and much to my delight Bob Weinstein agreed."

According to /Film, Dimension Films had been trying for several years to remake the horror/S&M film before initially giving up in 2010.

It seems that Dimension is willing to give it another go, enlisting the writer and director. While everyone seems to want Bradley to resume his role as head of the Cenobites, he has yet to sign on.

Though the studio has wanted to remake the original for some time, there have been direct to video sequels that keep getting made. The last one was the ninth Hellraiser film released in 2011 and title Hellraiser: Revelations.
