A massive rockslide in Colorado on Monday killed five hikers and trapped a teen girl, who survived because her dad used his own body as a shield to protect her.

Gracie Johnson, 13, was found alive near Agnes Vallie Falls in Chaffee County, Colo. An unidentified woman called police after witnessing 100-ton boulders slide onto a viewing area in Chalk Creek Canyon Monday morning.

"I heard a scream next to me. I saw a hand sticking out underneath the boulder," said Chaffee County Sherriff’s Deputy Nick Tolsma, who was the first to arrive at the scene, ABC reports. "The true hero is her dad. She said her dad jumped on her to protect her at the last moment when the rocks were coming down. I think he saved her life."

Gracie was rushed to Denver hospital with a broken leg. The hospital declined to release her condition as of Monday.

Gracie was the only one to survive out of her father, mother, and sister, who she was hiking on the mountain with. Authorities have not yet released the names of the other hikers who were killed.

According to NY Daily News, authorities will return to the mountain Tuesday when the slope is more stable to recover the remaining bodies.
