Comcast’s ‘Xfinity TV Player’ app will become ‘Xfinity TV Go’, and will stream 35 live channels with a Wi-Fi connection. This is, of course, included with a cable subscription, and is yet another attempt to retain, and gain, consumers in a world where many are finding cable obsolete.
The new app will let Xfinity TV customers watch up to 35 live TV channels — including ESPN, CNN, CNBC and Fox News — over any Wi-Fi connection on Apple and Android mobile devices, with availability depending on subscription level, according to Variety. This will be in addition to the numerous on-demand shows and movies already available.
The Verge is also reporting that Verizon Wireless subscribers will be able to stream over 3G and LTE, one of the fruits of the two companies' co-marketing partnership, giving them more functionality.
Not that this is revolutionary; Tivo has this available with their Roamio DVRs and Dish-Network’s partnership with Sling, has given the ability to watch live TV. The main difference being that instead of it being streamed through the subscriber’s home, it is streamed directly from the provider.
