Danne Desbrow was sentenced to 53 years-to-life in prison on Sept. 17 after committing first-degree murder. But the really interesting part of the case was that he married his fiancé, Destiny, just moments later.

According to U~T San Diego, San Diego Superior Court Judge Patricia Cookson handed out Desbrow's sentence and then turned around and performed the wedding vows. The judge even baked a cake for the occasion.

Desbrow was convicted ten years ago for killing Kevin Santos, and was put on trial two months ago after new evidence came about. During that period, Desbrow proposed to his girlfriend, whom he met in high school, reports the Associated Press.

“She called me back and sad yes, she would,” Destiny said. The new bride also said that the judge's secretary contacted her days in advance to ensure that she had everything she needed for her big day, including rings, notary and documents.

The judge may have been accomodating, but she still sentenced Desbrow with back-to-back 25-year-to-life terms, plus three extra years for threatening a witness.

"Obviously, it was an unusual day from start to finish," defense attorney Steve Cline said. "I mean, I appreciate that she honored the request for them to marry. But, I've never seen anything like that."

Desbrow will appeal his conviction but remains in jail as he faces an October hearing for another case.
