Courtney Yasmineh, the Chicago-born, Minneapolis-based singer-songwriter and guitarist is making an impressive entry into the music industry with her latest single, “Wake Me Up When It’s Over.” Yasmineh collaborated with Grammy-nominated musician and bandleader, Rob Genadek on “Wake Me Up When It’s Over.” The single is starting to surface in the rock/indie music industry.
“Wake Me Up When It’s Over” is aggressive and unapologetic. Yasmineh surprises audience with her unique jazz/rock vocals and impressive guitar rifts throughout this single. The chorus is catchy and the music is clearly an expression of Yasmineh owning her own musical style and passion.
"Wake Me Up When It's Over," has a very similar feel and sound that artists like Vicci Martinez and Lana Del Rey have fine-tuned. Yasmineh still feels like an artist that is looking for her sound and direction but this path of being aggressive and playing with different musical influences will benefit Yasmineh in the long run. Some artists find themselves in a musical stereotype after releasing a single; Yasmineh is pushing the boundaries and avoiding any stereotyping.
The only downside to "Wake Me Up When It's Over," is that the song hits a stride towards the end of and then the song concludes. The song has passion and energy and that should have been felt from start to finish instead of during the last minute of the song.
Yasmineh is currently on tour and her albums can be found in iTunes.
