Dana Marcine is a popular singer and songwriter who has been compared to singers such as Peggy Lee, Maude Maggart and Michael Bulble. Personally, I don’t see any of those comparisons, but her newest album, So Unexpected is one that really showcases her jazz vocal talents.

I’m not a huge jazz fan myself, and throughout the album’s duration I kept picturing an old, dimly-lit jazz bar with one singer on stage singing to just a few people. However, when I took the time to really listen to the lyrics that Marcine was singing, I was quite intrigued by her clever words. You can tell the performer writes her songs from the heart about situations in her own life or that she’s been inspired by.

For this reason, my favorite track from the album is “Spend the Day Together,” because I love the lyrics. The song is all about keeping a relationship going, even as both partners live busy lives. The story of the song was very clear, and I could easily relate to both the singer and the song. Several other songs on this album did the same for me.

Another thing I liked off the album was the transition between each song. One track would be an upbeat, up-tempo number, and the next a slow and somber piece, and then she repeated the process. All in all, Marcine is an extremely talented jazz vocalist who is sure to keep the successful albums coming.
