Director Michael Dougherty has announced that there would be a sequel to the 2007 horror movie Trick 'R Treat.
Dougherty jokingly told MTV that fans should expect plenty of "found-footage torture porn." Then he seriously said, "We're the antithesis of that."
The director sounded like he would stay with the style of the first film, which was similar to Creepshow in that it shows the audience several tales instead of just one.
Dougherty admitted than fan fervor online helped get the sequel approved by Legendary Pictures. "There's been a lot of fan demand for a sequel for years now, and I feel like this is sort of the first time that the fans have reached that fever pitch on Facebook and online."
According to Cinema Blend he laid all the credit on the fans. "I just want to say thank you to the fans," Dougherty said.
"This is a sequel which is definitely being made because of fan demand, and because of word of mouth, which has been building for years. It's not a sequel that's just being rushed ot because the movie had a big opening weekend. This is a sequel that people actually want."
The original film is quite popular and was well-received, despite not getting a theatrical release.
The movie was just green lit though, so fans should not expect the sequel anytime soon. Dougherty does not even have a script written yet and thus couldn't offer any concrete details on the sequel yet.
