Director Doug Limon is in early talks to direct 20th Century Fox's Narco Sub. Meanwhile, Alexander Payne has bought the rights to the story The Judge's Will.
A source told TheWrap that the action director is in talks with the studio now that he is free since finishing filming Edge of Tomorrow with Tom Cruise.
Until his death in 2012, Tony Scott was set to direct the film. Simon Kinberg and David Guggenheim developed Narco Sub and Guggenheim wrote the script. The title refers to ships that are used to smuggle cocaine between the U.S. and South America.
Kinberg, Scott Free, Elishia Holmes and Michael Schaefer are all set to produce the movie through their respective companies.
Limon fits as a director for this film as he primarily has directed blockbuster actions films, including Mr. & Mrs. Smith and The Bourne Identiy.
According to /Film, Alexander Payne has acquired the rights to the story The Judge's Will.
The story, by Ruth Prawer Jhabvala, was originally published in the New Yorker earlier this year. Will is about a Delhi judge who is sick and nearing death and wants his young mistress to be provided for after his passing. The judge already has a young wife to tend with.
Though he acquired the film rights, the Nebraska director admitted, "The curtain of truth is that I optioned that story, but I don't know when I'm gonna do it."
