When Kendrick Lamar dropped his ‘Control’ verse, it stirred up a lot of controversy. The rapper claimed to not expect that much backlash from it but a lot of rappers who weren’t mentioned took offense and responded with their own ‘Control’ verse. Out of the rappers he did mention, some were honored to be mentioned and some didn’t take it too lightly. One was Drake who showed us so during the promotion of his album. Kendrick Lamar must have heard about how sensitive Drake was to his verse, so he allegedly called out the rapper in his BET Cypher.
When Drake talked to Billboard he wasn’t so inspired by the verse.
“I didn’t really have anything to say about it, “ Drake said. “It just sounded like an ambitious thought to me. That’s all it was. I know good and well that Kendrick’s not murdering me, at all, in any platform. So when that day present itself, I guess we can revisit the topic.”
Drake also said that rappers who were mentioned by Kendrick Lamar won’t be looking to work with him, including himself.
Well according to PotHolesInMyBlog Kendrick took the BET Cypher opportunity to respond to Drake. While rapping over the Mobb Deep “Shook Ones Part II” instrumental, Kendrick raps:
“Nothing’s been the same since they dropped ‘Control’/And tucked the sensitive rapper back in his pajama clothes/Ha-ha, jokes on you/Hi-five (he proceeds to high five Schoolboy Q), I’m bullet proof/Your shits will never penetrate/Pin the tail on the donkey, boy you’ve been a fake.”
This may be the beginning on a beef between Kendrick and Drake. Watch the snippet below.
One can expect to see the full cypher once the BET Awards premieres on October 15.
