Drake is tired of being called the emotional rapper. Drake had a hour long interview on Thursday with CBC Radio, and he was interviewed by Jian Ghomeshi. Drake talked about his recent album, Nothing Was the Same and talked about his success and how he is different from his other rap peers.
According to BET.com, he spoke about pushing boundaries with his music and his being a balance between rap and melody. He says, “I like to sing, that’s what I do.Even when I’m rapping, the cadences are almost melodic to the point that they stick in your head.” He also says that he makes his music, “strictly for the purpose of driving at nighttime.”
His newest single, “Hold On We’re Going Home,” which happens to be John Mayer and Katy Perry’s favorite make out song.
Drake feels like he is being misunderstood because of his “soft” persona.
“I’m 26, I’m working as hard as I possibly can with my friends that I grew up with..making my family happy. I’m so sick of people saying that I’m like lonely and emotional. I do make music that makes you feel something, I’m actually not that guy in real life. I’m a happy person. My life is constantly exciting, it’s not some sad and depressing story.”
Even though he feels that he is misunderstood, he has no plans on changing. “I made a commitment early on to just be myself,” he says. “People just want me to go off more and lose my composure, and then that way I guess I would make more headlines or be more iconic. But that’s not me. I’m a naturally poised individual.”
