Drake’s new album Nothing Was the Same has debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, giving him the second best sales for an album’s debut week all year.
Drake’s third studio album sold 658,000 copies in its first week, trailing behind Justin Timberlake’s The 20/20 Experience – 1 of 2 for the highest sales in the first week when it came out in March to nearly 1 million copies sold.
Rap-Up notes it’s also a personal best for Drake. Nothing Was the Same is a follow-up to Take Care (2011), which sold 631,000 in its first week out. The sales for 2010’s Thank Me Later show the rapper is on a steady incline, as that album sold 447,000 in the first week.
Next week, experts predict Timberlake will reclaim the top spot again with his 20/20 Experience - 2 of 2.
According to the LA Times, Kings of Leon’s newest effort came in at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Singles off Nothing Was the Same have all done well on the charts, with "Started From the Bottom" peaking at No. 2 and "Hold On, We're Going Home" at No. 3.
