Two-time Oscar winner Dustin Hoffman has signed on for a new project, titled Boychoir. Hoffman will join fellow Oscar winner Kathy Bates, along with Alfred Molina in the film.
Francois Girard (The Red Violin) is set to direct from a script by Ben Ripley (Source Code), reports TheWrap. The film’s plot centers on an 11-year-old boy from a rough neighborhood who winds up at a Boy Choir school, under the tutelage of Hoffman’s demanding choir master.
Molina (Spider-Man 2, Chocolat) has been cast as a teacher, while Bates (American Horror Story: Coven) will star as headmistress. The search for a young boy to play the star of the film is still underway.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Informant Media is producing and financing. The executive producers are Michael A. Simpson, Eric Brenner and Ben Ripley and the producing team includes Judy Cairo, Carol Baum and Jane Goldenring.
Embankment Films is handling sales of the package at next week’s American Film Market. The American Boychoir School committed to contributing to the project. Production should start in February.
Hoffman recently directed Quartet, his first film in that role. He was last seen in front of the camera in HBO’s short-lived Luck and recently filmed Jon Favreau’s Chef.
