Kenyan authorities believe they have found evidence that connects suspected terrorist Samantha Lewthwaite, famously known as the “White Widow," to the al Shabaab terror attack on Nairobi’s Westgate mall.
An intelligence report indicating that Lewthwaite plays a significant role in the al Shabaab terrorist group was published this weekend. Also revealed were further plans to attack Nairobi UN offices and parliament buildings as well as several assassinations on Kenyan politicians, writes The Belfast Telegraph.
The report also sheds some blame on the Kenyan government for the mall attacks, revealing that there were clues of an impending terrorist attack long before the Westgate incident.
Lewthwaite earned the nickname “White Widow” when her husband, along with several others, carried out a suicide attack on a London subway 8 years ago, reports Fox News.
In a recent raid of Lewthwaite’s house, authorities found unused ammunition as well as a laptop with excerpts of her personal journal. Her journal reveals her own pride as the wife of a suicide bomber as well as first drafts of a book she appeared to be writing, titled “I Want To Be A Mujahid.”
The journal reads, “If sincere to this claim, then know what a Mujahid is and live like this [and] those who give up their desires, what they love most for Allah’s sake.”
