If you are trying to use Facebook this morning to provide your friends with a status update, you won’t be able to. Facebook is currently experiencing an issue with status updates.

Right now, on the social networking site, if you try to post a status update, a prompt comes up that says “Couldn’t Update Status.” A note reads, “There was a problem updating your status. Please try again in a few minutes.”

This is not an isolated issue. As Mashable notes, this appears to be a global issue. The site notes that they tried it with other IP addresses, but they all showed the same issue.

ThinkDigit notes that their readers have chimed in with other issues, like not being able to sign back in after signing out. They have also seen older news stories showing up in their news feeds. (Although, this only appears to be an issue for this author if I select “top stories” instead of “most recent.”)

The Wall Street Journal notes that Facebook hasn’t commented on the issue yet. But, Facebook users are on Twitter.

Both Facebook and Twitter have experienced outages in the past, so hopefully today’s outage is just a short one.
