A Florida man has found himself unemployed after a video has surfaced of him using a seat belt to tie up an autistic passenger.
Ilem Mintor is a Metro Mobility bus driver for autistic students. Ilem Mintor spoke to WPBF to tell them what caused him to tie up a 20-year-old autistic boy up.
“"I say, 'Don't do that, man,”... "And I grabbed a seat belt. I say, 'If you keep doing that, I'm gonna wrap your hand and take you back home like this.' I'm just giving him the pressure now."
While Mintor was driving the boy in question kept attempting to open the rear. Mintor explained that he fear the young man would fall out of the car, so he tied him up as a way to prevent such disaster.
However, the video evidence that has surfaced shows a contradiction to Mintor’s explanation of what happened. The video shows Mintor yelling at the boy before, what some consider, using unnecessary roughness to tie the boy up.
Metro Mobility seemed not to agree with Mintor’s actions and have fired him for his conduct.
“Metro Mobility is shocked by the actions that this driver took. In no way, shape or form does Metro Mobility endorse what the driver did. It’s actually the opposite,” said Neil Schiller, the company’s attorney, according to News one.
