Former MMA fighter Gina Carano is looking to establish herself as a Hollywood action star, following roles in Haywire and Fast & Furious 6. Her newest starring vehicle, In The Blood, has been scheduled for a 2014 release.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Anchor Bay Entertainment and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment will distribute the film on Blu-ray, DVD and video on demand next year, while Anchor Bay will also distribute the film in theaters in North America.
Blue Crush director John Stockwell directed In The Blood from a script by Bennett Yellin and James Robert Johnston. Carano’s co-stars include Danny Trejo, Stephen Lang, Luis Guzman, Amaury Nolasco and Cam Gigandet.
Meanwhile, Inquisitr notes that there’s been renewed interest in a Wonder Woman film, which fans have said they’d like to see Carano star in. Since In The Blood is only getting a small release, though, it really won’t be a good measuring stick to see if she can be a box office draw.
Carano herself has commented on Wonder Woman. While speaking with Comingsoon.net in August about In The Blood, she said that the rumors are an “incredible compliment.”
“That's the ultimate superhero for a woman,” she told the site, Comicbook.com reported. “No matter what, no matter who ends up being Wonder Woman someday, I just hope it's something that is done correctly. I know it's there and that it could definitely be done correctly. It's just a matter of getting the right people and having the right vision come together. A director and producer and writer have to see the beauty in it and make it real.”
The renewed interest came thanks to a Wonder Woman fan trailer that has racked up 3 million views.
