Gravity, the Oscar bound film starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock broke the all time box-office record for highest grossing October film opening.
According to ET, Gravity pulled in an estimated $55.6 million dollars, beating out the previous record holder, Paranormal Activity 3 (2011) by $3 million. Ace Showbiz adds that the movie broke additional records, as the biggest opening for stars Bullock and Clooney. Gravity topped The Heat's $39.1 million and Batman and Robin's $42.9M back in 1997, the actor's previous records, respectively.
Warner Brothers is basking in the glory of their successful new film. "In two days, this movie has become a cultural phenomenon. People that haven't gone to the movies in years, or who only see one or two movies a year, are going to see Gravity," says Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. domestic distribution chief. In an interview with The Huffington Post, when asked about how he felt about the film's reception, director Alfonso Cuaron responded modestly, "It's better than the alternative. Of course I'm pleased. And quite honestly, surprised."
Gravity is really proving itself to be out of this world.
