Hulu announced on Thursday that it had hired Fox executive Mike Hopkins as the CEO.
In a press release, Hulu said that Hopkins will take over for current CEO Andy Forssell, who will be leaving. He had been acting CEO only since March.
Anne Sweeney, co-chairman of Disney Media Networks and president of Disney/ABC Television Group, said, "After an extensive search, Mike was simply the best candidate for the job. He has a strong understanding of programming, digital distribution and consumer behavior, and a great vision for Hulu's next chapter."
Hopkins commented on his new post saying, "The team at Hulu has created a beloved user experience that feeds the undeniable need for quality, convenience and ease of use. I am honored to have the opportunity to work with this dynamic, innovative team."
He added, "I want to thank the folks at Disney and Fox, especially Anne Sweeney and Peter Rice [Chairman and CEO of Fox Networks Group], for this amazing opportunity."
According to Los Angeles Times, that since 2008 Hopkins was the president of distribution at Fox Networks. It's a move that could also possibly signal Hulu's desire to offer the streaming service through TV satellite and cable distributors.
When Hopkins worked for Fox, he was in charge of sales and marketing for Fox's channels and distribution strategy and Fox's on-demand services.
