Nipsey Hussle’s new mixtape Crenshaw was released exclusively for free online this Tuesday and has received rave reviews. He wanted to prove a point, even though fans can download the mixtape for free. Nipsey Hussle printed 1000 copies and sold them each for $100, which also included an autograph and concert tickets. A huge supporter of his ‘Hussle’ was Jay Z who bought 100 copies.
According to UPI Nipsey wanted to make a point by pressing only 1000 copies of his mixtape Crenshaw and selling them for $100 while providing the digital version for free.
He wanted to send a strong message to record labels for conforming artists and Jay Z agrees with it, hence purchasing 100 copies of the mixtape. That reportedly cost him $10,000. Happy with the fact that Jay Z showed his support, Nipsey tweeted about it. Jay-Z posted a picture of the 100 CD’s to his website Life and Times
with hash tag #NewRules.
Shout to Jay Z for buying 100 copies of #Crenshaw! http://t.co/0q0ymjOiFg http://t.co/L2HGopo7Ob

On the day he released Crenshaw Nipsey went and sold physical copies at a pop-up shop in Los Angeles and got a good turnout.
In an interview MTV News Hussle said, “I got a DM on Twitter from a respected hip-hop journalist and he was just like, ‘Hov respects the move, salute.’
“A little while later, I got an email that came through my team that was like, ‘Roc Nation on behalf of Jay Z wants to buy 100 units. Who do we pay? When can we get the shipment out?”
Immediately, Nipsey sent 100 physical copies to Jay Z’s camp and they returned with $10,000. “I didn’t get a chance to holla at Jay, but through his people he made it clear that he respects the movement and everything. I was humbled by it. I felt it like it was a good risk, and it ended up working out.”
Nipsey Hussle was able to successfully sell all 1000 units of his project and nothing is clear on what Jay-Z will do with those 100 CDs. Maybe he will give 97 away for free to the fans and keep 3 for his family.
