German fashion designer Jil Sander is leaving the fashion band named after her for a third time. She had most recently returned to the brand she founded in 1968 in 2012 after an eight-year absence.
The brand said that her decision was “motivated by personal reasons,” reports the AFP. Her Spring-Summer 2014 show will be her last with the Jil Sander banner.
“On behalf of the group I want to thank Jil Sander for her remarkable contribution to the brand over this period," said Jil Sander CEO Alessandro Cremonesi said in a statement. “Her outstanding design and creative leadership have been crucial in reinforcing the brand and positioning it to foster further prosperous growth.”
Sander, 69, founded the brand in Hamburg in 1968. According to the Guardian, she sold the company to Prada in 1999 and left after disagreements with Prada CEO Patrizio Bertelli. She came back in 2003 before leaving again after two seasons. Raf Simons took over, but left for Christian Dior after an eight-year tenure.
The Telegraph notes that after Simons’ left, Sander was brought back and took over in February 2012. Jil Sander did not announce a new creative director, but the autumn/winter 2014 is going to be lead by the in-house design team.
