Kanye West’s 6th solo effort Yeezus dropped this summer and had mixed reviews. However Kanye has achieved another milestone and it is has nothing to do with his new album. It brings us back to 8 years ago where his track “Gone” which held a spot on his sophomore album Late Registration. Well, after 8 years, it seems that the track has held a spot on the Billboard’s Hot 100’s Top 20.
2 weeks ago, a video of a young lady by the name of Marina Shifrin quitting her job went viral on YouTube. She was a news video writer/producer and wasn’t satisfied with the way her boss treated her so she took to this video to quit. She was dancing and making fun of her boss to a song, which belongs to Kanye West and features Cam’ron and Consequence. All this was occurring in the office at 4:30am and has earned over 15 million views on YouTube. Queen Latifah even offered a job in response to this video.
This song was called “Gone” and now it appears that her viral video has helped Kanye West debut on Billboard’s Hot 100. The track debuted at #18 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week.
Billboard’s policy allows songs that have renewed activity past their initial release cycles to be eligible to rank in the Hot 100 and genre rankings.
InFlexWeTrust reports that the track debuts on Hot R&B/Hip Hop songs at No. 6 and Rap Songs at No. 4.
Kanye’s second album Late Registration went multi platinum and it shows that it still stands the test of time.
