Kim Jee-woon has been selected to direct the adaptation of Ed Brubaker's Coward.
Variety is exclusively reporting the Korean director was chosen. Jamie Patricof and Lynette Howell will be producing. Nick Meyer's Sierra/Affinity is set to finance the film.
Brubaker, himself, wrote the screenplay that is based off his graphic novels.
Patricof said, "Kim Jee-Woon is exactly the type of filmmaker with which we are looking to collaborate. His previous work consists of elevated genre films, set in interesting worlds, with three-dimensional characters, which makes him a very strong and exciting partner for 'Coward.'"
Jee-woon has directed some popular Koreans films, like I Saw the Devil and A Bittersweet Life.
Jee-woon recently directed his first English-language film, The Last Stand, which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, First Showing notes.
The story of Coward takes place in a world of crooked cops, hustlers and other such lowlifes. The main character, Leo, is himself a master thief, who always has a perfect exit plan devised.
David Slade was originally attached to direct back in 2011, when the adaptation to the Eisner Award-winning graphic novel was originally discussed for adaptation.
