Sorry Kanye West, your girlfriend Kim Kardashian will not be getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame any time soon. A spokeswoman for the Walk of Fame landmark said that they don’t have a category for reality stars and don’t intend on creating one any time soon.
“We don't have a category for reality stars on the Walk of Fame,” Ana Martinez, a spokeswoman for the Walk of Fame, told the New York Daily News on Wednesday.
She explained to the paper, “They’re not giving a performance, it’s just them going through their daily lives and rituals on TV...We honor people who’ve acted in or directed or produced an award-winning show or film. And it’s the same with music, people who maybe have gold records.”
While this isn’t the first time we’ve heard that Kardashian won’t get a star on the Walk of Fame, West told Jimmy Kimmel earlier this month that he thinks she should get one. “People are so dated and not modern. There is no way Kim Kardashian shouldn’t have a star on the Walk of Fame,” he told the talk show host.
“I understand that Kanye loves his girlfriend, but that’s not the way to go about getting a star – on national TV without checking into whether or not she qualifies, which she does not,” Martinez told the Daily News. She added that the moment she breaks into another area of showbusiness, she can be considered.
Last year, Kardashian said in an interview that she would be interested in being the first reality star to get a star on the Walk of Fame. At the time, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which oversees the stars, made a comment similar to what Martinez said this week. If Kardashian gets nominated for an Oscar, wins a Grammy or an Emmy and can get a gold record, she could be considered.
Kardashian stayed in the headlines this week with her Instagram photo showing off her post-baby body. “Heading home now,” was West’s reply on Twitter.
