Hard as it may be to believe, I have never owned an actual set of over-the-ear headphones. I was, thankfully, too young for the 1970s craze of giant headphones plugged into 8-track players. And in the era of ear buds and ipods, I always felt that – outside of the recording studio -- over-the-ear headphones were kind of an ironic throwback.

However, having finally had enough of the tinny sound and generally uncomfortable fit of almost every pair of ear buds I’ve ever used, I recently tried out a pair of Kinivio BTH240 Bluetooth Stereo Headphones.

After a week of using them to listen to MP3s, watch videos, and make and receive phone calls, I can say with certainty that I have made my last train/airline/Bolt Bus trip using ordinary old ear buds. I am completely sold on the Kinivio headphones.

First, the fit cannot be topped. They are comfortable to the point that after a few minutes, I no longer had the sensation that I was wearing headphones. The band that links the actual earphones sits comfortably behind your head, keeping the earphones in place without any excessive pressure and creating a sleek, low profile look that I really like. They are also very lightweight and fold up to a size that fits in the palm of your hand, making storage and transport a breeze.

Connecting to my Iphone and Ipad was a piece of cake. There were no “hiccups” in connectivity like I’ve experienced with Bluetooth devices in the past. They allow you to seamlessly switch between listening to music and taking a phone call.

The sound quality is excellent. From mp3s to videos to phone calls, the sound was crystal clear.

The headphones conveniently charge via USB port, and, when fully charged, you’ve got around 10 hours of play time without another charge. Yes, that’s a round trip flight from coast to coast.

Available on Amazon fo $30.99, these would make a great holiday gift this season for the anyone from a picky teen to the discriminating music lover in your life.
